Wellington Heats

Well, i have managed to get some time while here at work to sit down and write about the wellington barista Championship heats.

Last Sunday (the 20th April) a number of us Baristas from around central New Zealand rolled into the Coffee Supreme Roastery for the heats.

I was first up, on the chilly morning! which was good to get it done, so i could enjoy the other compeititors.

Some very good performances were to be seen! and hats off to everyone that got up and gave it a go! it is incredibly hard to put yourself on the line for everyone to watch, and be judged!

At the end of the day, someone had to win, and that someone was Yutthana (Finn) Wiriyathanawutt from Mojo. He was an entertainer! he was great to watch!

I managed to get 2nd place, so i am pretty happy with that! gets me thru to the nationals in may. I have a bit of work to do before then! but looking forward to the challenge! if i can walk away at the nationals, pleased with how i did, i will be happy, and not too worried about where i come!

So the top 2 from each region goes to the nationals, but also the judges choose a few wildcards to go thru to the nationals as well. And doesnt instantly mean they choose 3rd place, but in the instance of wellington, they chose the 3rd place getter, as she did a stunning job on the day! so will be keen to see how she does at the nationals as well… That would be Laura Green From Mojo Coffee in Wellington as well.

Will be a great event in the Capital for the National Finals!! 18th May @ Caffe Laffare. Open to public!
