Katrina Gordon Trade Show Barista Competition
8 March 2008 in Barista Competitions, Coffee
Well, on Thursday, i had my first Barista competition for the “competition season”.
It was part of the Katrina Gordon Trade Shows. I competed in the Manawatu event. We had to produce 3x Espresso 3x Latte 3x Cappuccino in 10 mins.
Unfortunatly, i went over time a wee bit on this one, and got a bit carried away with my purty designs/latte art. However, doing so i must have gained more points on my presentation than what i lost as a time penalty, as i somehow managed to successfully win.

Talk about nerves tho. I did an “elvis”… trying to pour some latte art with an incredibly shaky hand was a fair challenge, usually even if i am shaking on the inside with nerves, my hand remains steady. Not this time!
As part of my latte art.. i tried for the first time whats known as a Taj Mahal, and for my first effort of it, was not too shabby i thought.
I would encourage anyone interested in competing in barista comps to put yourself out there and give it ago. Who knows, as scary as it is, you may surprise yourself.
Keep posted, as the big NZ comps are just around the Corner, with Christchurch heats kicking off on Tuesday (11th March).
