Starbucks Close for Training…
27 February 2008 in Coffee, GeneralStarbucks in the States, are closing for one night only… to train their “Baristas”!
Alot of people know i’m not the biggest fan of starbucks… so it begs the question.. are they doing this as a clever marketing ploy, or are other players in the corporate fast food world starting to cut into their profits, and as such, trying to raise their bar of quality a bit?
You can read the story here at NZ Herald.
Whats your thoughts on Starbucks?

Hey.. yeah i read the news article and laughed.. Its interesting to see that US based quickserve players are struggling.
Is it clever marketing? Nope.. I think clever marketing has got starbucks to where it is now.. A freaking huge entity that sells “Great Coffee”(tm) yet.. actually doesnt deliver Great Coffee..
The problem with these fast food empires is that consistency is the key. So after you roll out 1000’s of stores (by the way Malaysia is filling up fast with starbucks) you loose the consistent flavour of the brand.
I know companies like Wendys spend untold hours perfecting the same styles and experience all over the world.. Starbucks are just realising that while store #1 has great coffee… store #2773772812378 is not so good..
If only i knew where store #1 was… i might even be tempted to try a starbucks… NOT
the number one store was started in seattle, apparently its worth a visit..
as you say consistancy is the key.. i fond that too… and i only have one little outlet to worry about!
mate I would be willing to cast off the shackles of IT Support to run your second coffee store in Auckland.. Problem is finding a location that doesnt have a ratio of 10 coffee outlets to every 1 local..
hehehe, yeah getting a bit crowded in that market eh? people look at places with busy patches, and think its a license to print money… soon realise that 12 hr days, isnt as lucritive as one might think. takes a LONG while to buid it up.. and yes, location location location!
